EA FC 27: Hype Problem or Trust Problem?

EA FC 27 is officially here… and no one seems to be screaming about it.

That's not an exaggeration. From what we've seen on our own sales floor, the anticipation that once defined a new FIFA launch has quietly faded. And that's worth unpacking because the reason might not be what you think.

The Good Old FIFA Days

Back in the FIFA era, we could do close to 2,000 copies on pre-order. Customers paid upfront from the moment we opened pre-orders, sometimes right up to a week before release.

The buzz was real:

  • People were talking about ratings

  • Debating new features

  • Arguing about teams and gameplay

  • Speculating about Career Mode

  • You could literally feel the anticipation building toward launch day

Those pre-orders weren't just transactions. They were statements of trust. Players believed the next game would be worth their money.

Then Came the Rebrand

FIFA became EAFC.

And from what we've observed, the hype has taken a serious nosedive. The interest simply isn't what it used to be.

Our phones aren't buzzing.

  • Customers aren't calling

  • They're not messaging

  • They're not rushing to secure their copy like they used to

The energy is different. The urgency is gone. And that's interesting because EAFC isn't suddenly a bad game.

EA Has Been Adding Features

To be fair, EA has introduced new content this year:

  • The Grounds (a new social and customization space)

  • Gameplay changes

  • More live content

These aren't insignificant additions. On paper, there's plenty to be excited about.

But here's the problem: Players have been dealing with many of the same fundamental frustrations year after year.

  • Gameplay inconsistencies

  • AI behavior

  • Movement and animations

  • Menu navigation

  • Career Mode depth

And every year, we're asked to get excited about another set of changes without addressing the core issues that keep players frustrated.

The Real Question: Did EA Fix What Was Broken?

This is the question that matters most: Did EA actually fix the things that frustrated players about the last game?

Because a new feature doesn't automatically create hype if players don't trust the fundamentals.

Hype is built on trust. Trust that the game will work. Trust that the developers listened. Trust that this year's version is genuinely better not just different.

And maybe that's what we're seeing.

Maybe EAFC doesn't have a hype problem.

Maybe it has a trust problem.

The Difference Between Playing and Screaming

There's a big difference between these two statements:

  • "I'll play EA FC 27."

  • "BRO… HAVE YOU PLAYED EAFC 27 YET?!"

The first is a habit. The second is passion.

Habit keeps a franchise alive. Passion makes it a cultural event.

And right now, EAFC feels more like a habit than a phenomenon.

The Verdict

So… is FC 27 actually different? Or are we just buying another football season?

That's for players to decide. But the silence around this launch is telling. It suggests that EA needs to do more than add features it needs to earn back trust.

Because until players believe the fundamentals have been fixed, the hype will never return to FIFA-era levels.
