About the Role:

Vivid Gold Esports Academy seeks passionate and knowledgeable Esports Educators to deliver a dynamic, hybrid esports curriculum. This curriculum that equips African youth with essential digital skills, career pathways, and opportunities within the growing esports ecosystem. Our mission is to bridge the gap between traditional education and the digital economy, fostering inclusivity, innovation, and career readiness.

As an esports educator, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of esports education in Africa by designing, delivering, and benchmarking a curriculum that reflects African contexts and builds essential digital competencies, including but not limited to:

Role Overview:

We are seeking passionate and knowledgeable Esports Educators to join our team and deliver a hybrid esports curriculum. Candidates must possess expertise in one or more of the following fields, with a solid understanding of esports and gaming:

  • Business
  • Events Management

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development:

  • Benchmark and analyze existing data to develop an esports curriculum tailored to the African community.
  • Ensure the program emphasizes essential skills, digital career pathways, and the positive impact of gaming.

Instruction & Facilitation:

  • Deliver engaging lessons through a hybrid model (online and in-person).
  • Facilitate interactive videos, hands-on group work, and educator-led concept demonstrations.
  • Provide timely feedback and support learners in completing assessments and real-world tasks.

Skill Building & Mentorship:

  • Foster creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration among learners.
  • Mentor learners in esports-related fields, emphasizing inclusivity and accessibility.

Assessment & Recognition:

  • Evaluate learners through practice exercises, assessments, and real-world applications.
  • Support achievement awards at three levels: Distinction, Merit, and Pass.

Community Impact:

  • Advocate for gaming’s positive influence on youth and career prospects.
  • Collaborate with foundations, sponsors, and grant providers to secure opportunities and resources for learners

Requirements:

  • Background knowledge of esports and a strong understanding of gaming.
  • Expertise in your respective field and ability to apply it to esports contexts.
  • Experience in curriculum development, education, or training (preferred).
  • Familiarity with the Africa’s esports landscape, ecosystem, culture and economy is a strong advantage.
  • Commitment to fostering inclusivity, diversity, and equitable access to digital skills.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and mentorship skills.
  • Resident of Kenya.

Curriculum Highlights:

Our curriculum is anchored in a TRI-PATHWAY Approach designed to prepare learners for the esports creative economy:

  1. Academic Pathway: Aligned with SDG Goal 4 and technical/vocational learning frameworks and develops industry-ready skills and competencies for esports careers.
  2. Hands-On Pathway: Focuses on experiential learning through projects, internships, and real-world applications.
  3. Industry-Ready Pathway: Equips learners with adaptability, technical expertise, and entrepreneurial skills for the esports industry ecosystem.

Engagement Framework:

This framework ensures clarity and fairness while aligning with both the educator's contributions and the academy's ownership requirements.

Course Content Creation and Updates:

Involves: Pre-recorded educator-led video lessons and skill demonstrations, made available through the Learning Management System.

  • Task: Developing and maintaining video-on-demand coursework, which includes scripting, recording & editing (handled by our in-house editor), and publishing successful content on the LMS (handled by our in-house digital support administrator)
  • Compensation: Payment is fixed per successfully completed course unit or module and is billed on an accrual basis.
  1. New Content Creation: $150 for a total of 2 to 3 hours of finalized video content per course unit or module
  2. Updating Existing Content: $25 for a total 1 to 2 hours of updated video content, per course unit or module.

Live Webinar Sessions:

Involves: Live demonstrations, feedback sessions, and discussions delivered through the Learning Management System.

  • Task: Hosting live check-in sessions for feedback and discussions.
  • Compensation: Payment is billed as and when the sessions occur, on an accrual basis.
  1. $30 for 1 to 3 hours long live session, depending on the number of participants.

In-Person Sessions:

Involves: On-site collaborative practical sessions in small groups, emphasizing creation and clarification, with timely educator feedback, conducted in our dedicated esports training facility.

  • Task: Conducting onsite, in-person sessions for collaborative tasks and personalized feedback.
  • Compensation: Payment is billed per scheduled session, on an accrual basis.
  • Note: If an educator is unavailable for an in-person session, the facility floor admin assistant must be provided with guidance to deliver the module’s objectives effectively.
  1. $80 for 4 to 6 hours long in-person. Travel and accommodation expenses reimbursed separately, if applicable.

Facilitating Submitted Assessments:

Involves: Evaluation of online assessments within the LMS to classify learner achievements, awarding certificates for Distinction (exceptional), Merit (above-average), and Pass (satisfactory) performance.

  • Task: Reviewing, grading, and providing feedback on assessments.
  • Compensation: Payment is billed on an accrual basis as each assessment task is completed
  1. $20 for 2 to 4 hours long of assessment, depending on the volume of assessments.

Promotional Appearances:

  • Task: Participating in marketing and promotional activities for the course.
  • Compensation: Payment is billed per appearance, on an accrual basis. Depending on the scope (e.g., live events, video shoots, interviews). Travel and accommodation expenses reimbursed separately, if applicable.
  1. $20 per local appearance.
  2. Range between $100 - $250 per international appearance.

Cloning License Fees:

  • Task: Cloning the Learning Management System and its content for other learning institutions interested in offering our esports curriculum.
  • Compensation: A one-time fee of 1% of the cloning license fee per educator, representing their contribution to the Learning Management System content when licensed to other educational institutions.

Ownership and Intellectual Property:

  • All materials created by the educator under this agreement, including recorded courses, live webinar facilitation, in-person sessions, assessment facilitation, and marketing appearances, are owned by the academy in perpetuity.
  • The educator waives ownership, intellectual property, and copyright claims once engagement terms are finalized.
  • Ownership and IP options:

a) Royalty Structure:

  • The academy retains ownership and pays the educator a percentage of net course revenue. (4–5% of net revenue from course sales) for a specified period.
  • Royalties decrease over time (1–2%) after a specified period.
  • In both cases, royalty payments will expire after a set period, and are not in perpetuity.

b) One-Time Buyout Structure:

  • The educator receives a lump sum payment, securing the company's complete ownership of all created content.
  • The educator waives all future claims to royalties or intellectual property rights.
  • A one-time payment equivalent to projected royalties over an agreed period.

  4. Skill Development Platforms: Esports Training Software – Aim Lab or Kovaak and Game-Specific Coaching Platforms - ProGuides for League of Legends or Dotabuff for Dota 2 analytics.
  5. Collaboration and Communication Tools: Team Communication Apps – Discord servers and Project Management Tools – Platforms like Monday, Notion or Trello.
  6. Esports Curriculum Resources: Industry-Specific Learning Modules and AI-Powered Learning Management System.
  7. Networking Opportunities: Exclusive Access to Industry Events and Mentorship Programs.
  8. Other Advanced Resources: Dedicated training spaces, cloud gaming services for multi-device access, and performance tools like wearables (e.g., WHOOP).
